Find the right level for you

All classes run in 8-week blocks. Between the two classes, there is practice time open to all students and levels.

BEGINNERS 1

MONDAYS · 19:30-20:30

REQUIREMENTS
Just the willingness to start a new dance, meet people and have fun!

WHAT TO EXPECT
In this level we teach you the basics in forró to get you up to speed and ready to go on the dance floor. This class is good for anyone making their first steps in forró, even if you have experience with other partner dances.

BEGINNERS 2

MONDAYS · 21:00-22:00

REQUIREMENTS
Have completed the Beginners 1 course. You should know how to execute the basic steps (base 1, open base, dois pra lá dois pra cá), balanço, xaxado, chuveirinho, enlace and simple turns.

WHAT TO EXPECT
In this level we will start focusing more on the technique of each step and introduce connection and musicality concepts.

The classes in this level are also open as single classes for dancers of higher levels interested in any of the topics (check the schedule below).

INTERMEDIATE 1

WEDNESDAYS · 19:30-20:30

REQUIREMENTS
Have completed at least three blocks of the Beginners 2 course or equivalent. You should know how dance respecting the breaks in the song and restarting on the strong beat, and have the ability to adapt your energy according to the music. You must know how to dance a whole song on arrasta-pé.

WHAT TO EXPECT
We will work on more body awareness, all the forró rhythms, and how to connect movements in different ways. You will better understand common structures in Forró and explore more of your creativity. You will also focus on and prioritise communication with others and with the space around you.

INTERMEDIATE 2

WEDNESDAYS · 21:00-22:00

REQUIREMENTS
Have completed at least three blocks of the Intermediate 1 course or equivalent. You must be able to identify the strong beat in any Forró song. You must be able to dance to slow and fast songs with control, confidence, and a good connection with your partner.

WHAT TO EXPECT
At this level you are challenged to be more independent and creative as leader and follower. Having a fairly broad knowledge of the Forró universe, the technical work intensifies, and you begin to strive for an open, challenging, and interactive dialogue with your partner.

Summer block June-July 2026

Join us for six weeks of forró from 22 June to 27 July. Whether you’re taking your first steps or looking to refine your technique, our summer programme offers something for everyone. Taught by Bruna, Empar & Raquel

Beginners (60 min) – Mondays 19:00-20:00
Learn the fundamentals of forró in a structured 6-week course. The first class is free, making it the perfect opportunity to try forró for the first time.

Open Level (90 min) – Mondays 20:30-22:00
Dive deeper into specific techniques, movements, and musicality concepts. Each week focuses on a different topic, allowing experienced dancers to develop their skills in greater detail. Open level topics will be announced soon.
REQUIREMENTS: Having completed at least once Beginners 1 block.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the classes held?

All classes take place at Emma Centrum, Cremerstraat 245, Utrecht. For our workshops we occasionally use other locations in Utrecht, so make sure you check the address on the registration.

What should I wear or bring?

Comfortable clothes you can move in and indoor shoes or socks. A water bottle is always a good idea!

Can I join alone or do I need a partner?

No partner needed! We rotate partners regularly during class.

How do I know which level to join?

Start with Beginners 1 if you’re new. If unsure, feel free to contact us or ask your teacher.

I have previous dance experience (salsa/bachata). What level should I join?

We highly recommend starting with our Beginners 1 course, even if you have prior dance experience. Forró has unique elements, and our curriculum is designed to help you build a strong foundation in the dance.

If you’d like to explore joining a higher level, feel free to reach out to us first so we can discuss the best option together.

What happens if I miss a class or get sick?

If you know in advance that you can’t attend, just let us know. You’re welcome to make up your missed class by joining another class on a different day in the same week.

If you’re unable to attend any class that week, we ask that you review the class videos shared on WhatsApp for that week so you can stay in sync with your fellow forrozeiros for the next class.

Can I attend one class on Monday and one on Wednesday?

Yes you can if you choose the 2 classes per week option during registration. Note that this is possible as long as you register for your level and a lower level.
